In order to safely evacuate people in a workplace, factors should be considered such as the means for raising the alarm which should have sufficient call points and be audible throughout the premises, the number of employees to be evacuated and fire risk profile of the workplace, the number of exit routes required, travel distances involved, protection of escape routes, corridors, stairways etc. with fire resistant materials, provision of fire doors, fire compartments, story exits, final exit leading to a place of total safety, location of assembly point etc. Additional factors which could be identified include the provision of adequate signage, emergency lighting along exit routes and the location of fire fighting equipment, the need to appoint responsible
